Introduction: Kurt Vonnegut makes an insightful comparison between ant behaviour and human society:

Are you aware that nothing will happen in a jar containing 100 black and 100 red ants? However, if you vigorously shake the jar, the ants begin to murder one another. Both the black and red ants view each other as enemies. The red ants see the black ants as their enemies. The person shaking the jar is the real adversary. Human society experiences the same thing.
He discloses that when outside factors disturb the jar, disputes emerge between several factions, frequently resulting in injury and devastation. By asking ourselves who is really in charge of opening the jar, we can learn important lessons about harmony, wisdom, and averting needless conflict. Let’s investigate this concept further using pertinent texts from the Bible.

1. Ephesians 4:3: “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
This verse exhorts people to actively work towards preserving their unity and to resist letting outside forces sow discord and hatred inside their own ranks.

2. Proverbs 16:28: “A gossip separates close friends, and a perverse person stirs up conflict.”
Here, the Bible issues a warning against those who sow division and hostility among people on purpose. It inspires us to recognise their existence and intentions, understanding that they are the real adversaries trying to wreak havoc on society.

3. Matthew 5:9 reads, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
This passage highlights the value of fostering harmony and peace, urging people to put aside their animosity and settle disputes amicably as opposed to assaulting one another.

4. Galatians 5:22–23 reads: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
These characteristics, also known as the fruits of the Spirit, serve as a reminder of the virtues needed to mitigate the negative impacts of outside disruptions. We may promote unity and fend off dividing forces by living up to these qualities.

In conclusion, Kurt Vonnegut’s comparison serves as an excellent example of how important it is to identify the underlying reasons for disputes that emerge in human society. By acknowledging outside influences that incite and control conflict, we can refocus our attention on harmony and peace. The Bible offers insightful guidance on maintaining peace and spotting individuals who would take advantage of differences. Let’s bond together as people to combat the real enemy and act as peacemakers in order to overcome hardship and establish a stronger society. Thanks for reading. May the favour of The Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us–yes, establish the work of our hands. Be Blessed mightily of God. Shalom and Life to you.
