Think about Samson. He lost it all. Betrayed and blinded and kept in chains, and he basically turned into a punchline for people who hated him. They made him grind grain like he was some farm animal. His strength was gone and his self-respect was gone and his whole sense of self was wiped out. It wasn’t just the public embarrassment—the sheer weight of failure was likely killing him from within.
And then there’s this portion of scripture ;
Judges 16:22 (NIV):
“But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.”
This verse reflects Samson’s restoration of strength as his hair grew, which played a key role in the final part of his story.
Just sit with that for a second. It didn’t happen all at once. Wasn’t a big, loud moment or a cinematic miracle. Growth was small and quiet and essentially hidden for quite a while.
You might be living through a version of that same embarrassment right now. It could be a mess-up at work or some person you trusted walked away or you been misrepresented by people who should know better. Regardless of what fueled the judgment against you, keep one thing in mind: growth is already happening. Even if you can’t feel it at all.
I guess we all spend a lot of time in our own version of those “grinding mills.” You could be handling the mess of old mistakes while people on the outside just see who you used to be. But fixed lives start in those secret spaces where only God is doing anything. Samson didn’t get his hair back because he did some great act or earned a do-over. His hair came back because the story wasn’t actually over. Seems like the version of you that falls to pieces is exactly the version that ends up doing something huge later on.
A few points:
Dead ends aren’t even real. The shame is just a messy chapter in the middle, not the final word. Finding yourself again is a bit like biological growth—it’s driven by a power that honestly is move-for-move way bigger than us.
And you shouldn’t resent how slow it feels. Change can be pretty ugly. On some mornings it probably doesn’t feel like you’re gaining any ground. But sticking to hope and just showing up every morning means the heavy lifting is happening under the skin. Maybe the smallest shifts are the ones that actually carry the most weight.
Truth is, the comeback usually hits harder than the collapse did. Samson ended up doing more in his final seconds than he did back when he was a trophy. Wasn’t “clean” or pretty, and it was definitely unpolished, but it worked. High-caliber change usually uses the broken pieces you’re trying to hide.
When that voice tells you it’s been decided and you’ve got nothing left, just stay quiet and watch.
The world loves a reclaim story and God is fond of writing them in dark offices and dead-end corners. Right there in the dirt of everything that went sideways, Something new has taken root and started pushing through the soil.
Keep going. The hair is coming in. And the white pillars you feel trapped between? They probably aren’t as stable as they look.
