Guard Your Heart, Build Your Life: A Word for the Wise

There is a hard truth we must be brave enough to face: not everyone in your life is rooting for you. Before you allow someone to mistreat you or make you feel small, remember this—death is the ultimate equalizer. Before you tell someone they are “not your class,” ask the mortuary attendant if he reserves a special bed for the ruling class.

You are not defined by the company you keep, but by the God you serve. Your mates are not your God, so stop using their clock to check your time. Their success does not delay yours, and their opinion does not dictate your destiny. Wait on God’s timing; it never fails.

Learn the art of discretion. Don’t let people know too much about you. A closed mouth is a closed gate to your blessings. Don’t be too available. It is far better for someone to say “long time no see” than to whisper “this idiot has come again.” Value your presence; if you are everywhere at once, you are worth nothing at all.

Take care of your temple. Dress well and smell nice, even when you are financially stretched. You do not have to look like your problems. Dignity is not a luxury for the rich; it is a discipline for the wise.

Maintain your distance and mirror the effort people show you. Don’t overthink relationships; be direct, be wise, and stay alert. If they ignore you, learn to unlove them. Don’t beg for replies. Don’t beg for attention. The less they know about your life, the safer your blessings are.

Scripture reminds us:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23

Falling in love with the wrong person is like handing someone a loaded gun pointed at your heart and trusting them not to pull the trigger. Be careful who you hand your heart to.

Stop wasting your prime years in the club or at night parties with people who don’t care about your future. Fade into the background and build yourself in silence. Let your progress make the noise.

The struggle you are in today is shaping the strength you will need tomorrow. Life is a book of many chapters. Every single page—the good, the bad, and the ugly—is necessary. So don’t close the book too soon.

Your greatest chapter is yet to come. Thanks for reading, I urge you to subscribe and share to your friends and love ones. May God’s Grace abound unto you. You may share your thought in the comments.
