The notion that “Africa doesn’t need more churches but more thinkers” invites a reflective examination of priorities in the quest for holistic development on the continent. While faith and spirituality remain deeply important to many African communities, the pressing challenges of poverty, disease, and underdevelopment call for a balanced approach that emphasizes education, innovation, and critical thinking.
A political office dedicated to receiving prophecies is unnecessary for our continent. We need a central hub to collect innovative ideas for patenting and to support the implementation of these concepts for progressive advancement.
Building more prayer retreat centers helps foster spiritual development, but funding hospitals, schools of science and technology, and organizations devoted to mental renewal is just as important. Indeed, if we combine hindsight, insight and foresight, Africa does not need more churches; what we need are more thinkers. These are the systems that enable people to use their imagination and ingenuity to solve practical issues, raising living standards and promoting long-term development.
The development of thinkers—those who ask questions, come up with new ideas, and create—is a catalyst for long-term societal change, and education and healthcare are fundamental foundations of development. The Bible itself affirms the importance of knowledge and intelligence. For the Lord bestows insight; knowledge and understanding flow from his mouth, according to Proverbs 2:6. This evidence shows that intellectual development and spiritual faith are not mutually exclusive but rather complementary endeavours.
Faith can provide a sense of purpose, and critical thinking and education enable people to translate that purpose into real, workable solutions. A reinvigorated focus on science, technology, healthcare, and education, along with spiritual development, can create a prosperous Africa where religion and intelligence work together to enhance communities and nations. In addition to praying for change, this all-encompassing strategy encourages actively considering and pursuing it.
Thanks for reading. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or THINK, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
