Be Kind, but do not be Nice.

Because nice means wanting always to be liked…
Nice means silencing the inconvenient truth.
Nice means choosing always to be comfortable.

Nice means letting go of courage.
Nice means talking about peace but not about justice.
Nice will not remake the world and there’s so much about our world that needs remaking.

Be Kind because kindness is a measure of our humanity but do not be nice.

The notion of “Be Kind but do not be Nice” emphasizes the importance of genuine kindness over the superficial desire to always be agreeable. It highlights the distinction between being genuinely compassionate and merely seeking approval.

When we strive to be nice, we often prioritize being liked over standing up for what is right and just. We may avoid uncomfortable truths and challenging situations in order to maintain a facade of agreeableness. However, kindness goes beyond surface-level politeness. It involves empathy, compassion, and the courage to address difficult issues. Indeed you need a kind heart to be able to lead a team, Nation or a Church organization or a corporate body.

In the Bible, Matthew 10:16 provides guidance that aligns with this notion: “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” This verse encourages discernment and wisdom while maintaining a spirit of innocence and kindness.

By embodying kindness without adhering to the constraints of being nice, we can address injustices, speak the truth with love, and work towards creating a more compassionate and equitable world. Kindness, rooted in authenticity and empathy, has the power to bring about meaningful change and positive transformation in our relationships and communities.

Thanks for reading. Be empowered to fulfil your purpose in life. Shalom and life to you.
