When you’re no longer helping someone, you see their real colours. People will smile, call you a “friend,” and act like they’re always there for you when things are going well and you’re helping, backing them, or offering something they can gain. But life has a way of exposing intentions. But the moment you can no longer serve their interests, when you can’t help them anymore, when you have nothing left to give, or when you say, “No,” that’s when the masks come off. When that occurs, you recognize who genuinely cares about you and who merely seeks to gain from you. Silence, distance, and the absence of benefits reveal the true nature of people. Indeed, many former Heads of State, CEOs, Senators, Bankers, Governors, Politicians, Married Men and women will attest to this truth.

If you’re not “useful” to some people, they will stop looking at you. When people realize that you’re no longer useful to them, they’ll treat you differently. Really, that’s not a loss; it’s a discovery. There is no betrayal; there is truth. On the other hand, there are a few genuine people who stay with you when things are at their worst. They select you based on your identity, not solely on your abilities to contribute. Those are the people you should value because they are reliable and honest.

Do not be upset when people leave when you can no longer meet their wants or need. Life naturally removes insincere individuals to create space for genuine ones. Not everyone in your life is meant to stay. Some people are there to teach you something, while others are there to help you. Get close to people who will be there for you even when you can’t give anything else. This is how you know who is important.

“Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Many curry favor with a ruler, and everyone is the friend of one who gives gifts. The poor are shunned by all their relatives— how much more do their friends avoid them! Though the poor pursue them with pleading, they are nowhere to be found.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬
