The proverb “Of what use is money in the hands of a fool?” appears in the Bible in Prov 17:16 NET and is associated with the idea of wise stewardship. Its meaning is that a person who is foolish or lacks wisdom will not understand the value of money and may waste, misuse, or squander it. The proverb suggests that using money wisely is vitally important, as it only has true value when it is put to good use. Money can provide people with opportunities to do good, achieve great things, and/or improve their lives, but if it is not used responsibly it can be wasted away with no lasting benefit.
The proverb thus encourages people to use money wisely and to avoid foolish and careless spending.
…. It seems the poor economy facing Africa is a self inflicted one. We have borrowed so much for the past 30 years but utilized it in conducting electioneering campaigns and organizing elections to the extent that we have become experts in organizing elections but records very low productivity. We plan excellently to win elections but not for productivity growth, very good at mobilizing the youth at constituencies and strategize to win elections but not for economic growth.
We have become experts in protecting electoral ballot boxes and experts in preventing rigging in elections but ignore the protection of the National purse and prevention of corruption. What a dichotomy.
Sadly in Africa ,the church that is to help provide solutions has preached and focused on Giving as the way to prosperity and prophetic messages for the past 30 years but the country has relatively produced more poor people than that of some countries with larger population.
Most Churches who are unfortunately depending on tithes and offering, still have on their priority short, medium to long term plan list , to build Offices, large prayer camps/retreat centers whilst on hindsight it is clear that a significant number of churches have closed down or gone out of business in recent years, particularly in the United States and Europe.
We now have more poor but tongue talking spirit filled people in our churches waiting for manna to fall , hunting for miracle and hoping to go to heaven one day but not ready to die and not ready to walk in paths of righteousness. Very interesting contradiction. May God grant us the Grace to have the wisdom to rethink, prioritize and add to our Faith Action.
It will not be a bad idea for both governments and church leadership in Africa to embark on similar projects such as the once initiated by UAE Ref: Sharjah wheat farm and the story about its expansion plan. in Ghana! We still have large stretches of unutilized land up north, along the black and white Volta. We can do similar projects all year round. We can plan to harvest the water spilled by the Burkinabes each year, store it all up for farming in the dry season. It’s about time we shift from a religion economy to knowledge economy.
